Thanksgiving is such a great reminder of the things we tend to take for granted during the year. All those times we forget to be in the moment, get caught up in the day to day, and forget that despite our problems we lead quite a blessed life.
We had a "Friendsgiving" and it was awesome. There is nothing like creating a family away from family. But some sweet friends were missing from the beautifully decorated table and had to spend the day in the hospital. Our prayers were with them for sure but it just wasn't the same. Even spending the day in the hospital they have many things to be thankful for, though it's always harder to see in the midst of pain and suffering.
Our Thanksgiving morning, Gavin reminds me of the joys of growing up, the joy of first experiences, and the joys of childhood. He runs in at full speed into the bedroom, practically taking the door off the hinges, as Shannon and I get ready for church. He wears only his undies as he's been sweet and watching cartoons while we sleep in (it's 7am). He's forgotten to put his glasses on again this morning and his hair is messy.
"Guys, guys, guess what! My tooth fell out! Look!!!"
Sure enough there is a nice bloody hole where his tooth was on the bottom right. "Wow! Where is the tooth?" I ask.
He replies, "I have no idea."
"Did you swallow it?" I ask?
He answers, "I don't think so."
"What were you doing when it came out? Were you chewing on your blanket?" as I look through his blanket which has been gnawed on for over 5 years and looks worse for wear.
Shannon comes out and sees the apple on the table he's been feasting on as a makeshift do-it-yourself breakfast. And there in the apple is the tooth, right where he left it. He didn't even notice it was missing as he ate the apple until his tongue went through the hole!
