First Grader? No way!
Gavin started first grade last week. He was not very excited. He woke up before I did and when I came out of the bedroom he was already all dressed in his uniform. I think he was secretly excited. His first day was a half day, ease them into the routine, I suppose. I picked him up in carpool and his first comment, "That was exhausting!" Oh boy, we add on three more hours tomorrow! The second day he did too much talking and didn't receive his stamp at the end of the day. Gavin and too much talking, who'd have thought!? The third day he did much better and had no homework other than reading. Though I was notified he would have his first ever spelling test next Friday. I can't believe I have a kid old enough to do spelling tests. Today ended his first full week of school. I think we are getting into the routine. He still wakes up and immediately gets into his uniform and the mornings are going smoothly without fighting him to get ready. I think the trick is no cartoons until you are all ready for school. I am making mornings easier on myself pre-making those lunch boxes a few nights in advance. The first day of homework, he asked me to take a picture of him at his desk while working on it! So cute! At carpool one day, I picked him up and he said, "I had a fantastic day!" Well, that sure is music to my ears. My boy that had been debbie-downer for the last several weeks of summer may finally be seeing some sunshine! He came right in and got started on writing his spelling words. I'm impressed! I hope it continues! We got his behavior report on Friday. He had quite a few marks for talking out of turn or talking when he isn't supposed to. The teacher asked for our help with this. It was hard, talking is who he is, but we grounded him from cartoons and made him right an apology to the teacher. Hopefully he learns the appropriate times to talk and tell his "stories" soon.
