Please tell me age seven is the end of the lying stage. I don't know how much more I can take.
Several nights ago Gavin lied about taking a bath. He disappeared when asked to take a shower and came back with damp hair and pj's on. Later on, I realized his towel was bone dry and still folded perfectly on the rack and the shower, dry as a bone. He still "swore" he took a shower. Trust me, if he had, that towel would be on the floor. My problem is I told him my secret, how I knew he lied.
Several nights later I was busy making dinner for guests. I asked him to shower. This time he came back with wet hair and pj's and claimed to have bathed. I go into the bathroom and the towel is lying in a pile on the floor, soaking wet. But the floor and tub are bone dry. The towel wet like it had been run through the sink. Again, lied to my face like a champ! So I watched him shower and did NOT reveal my secret of how I knew.
He tends to also lie about brushing his teeth. This kid gives me a run for my money. Peer pressure of stinky body and breath may be the only thing that helps break this habit. No one wants to be friends with a stinker.
Another frequent lie: "Where's my phone?" Reply, "I don't know." Reality, it's in his pocket, under his bed, under a couch pillow.
