My Reflections on Independence Day 2021
Independence- synonym: freedom
Freedom- the power to act, speak, and think without hindrance or restraint. - synonym: privilege
When I think about these words, this definition, gratitude weighs on my heart.
That I live in this world, now and not some distant past or future time.
That I live in this country, in America.
Independence- synonym: freedom
Freedom- the power to act, speak, and think without hindrance or restraint. - synonym: privilege
When I think about these words, this definition, gratitude weighs on my heart.
That I live in this world, now and not some distant past or future time.
That I live in this country, in America.
That I am alive and have all my faculties.
That I believe in God, in faith that there is something greater than myself- that is within me and connects me to all things in the Universe.
I feel free, to move about, to be loved, to be forgiven, to be respected, to be equal, to be welcome. Not something all beings have experienced, or felt -at any given time or quite possibly ever in their lifetime.
I have never had my freedom taken from me through abuse or rape.
That I believe in God, in faith that there is something greater than myself- that is within me and connects me to all things in the Universe.
I feel free, to move about, to be loved, to be forgiven, to be respected, to be equal, to be welcome. Not something all beings have experienced, or felt -at any given time or quite possibly ever in their lifetime.
I have never had my freedom taken from me through abuse or rape.
Nor my freedom taken from me to live in a home with people I love and that love me in return.
I have the privilege of and the freedoms of an incredible life.
To choose to eat healthily, to breath the freshness in the air, to walk with nature, to be alone or to be in contact with others near or as far as the other side of the globe at any given moment.
I have the freedom of walking away when someone has abused my rights or disagrees with my beliefs. Freedom to be silent as well as the right to speak.
Freedom to stand alone and the right to walk with many.
I am independent. But not alone. Free and privileged.
But not unaware of the beauty in that.
I am blessed and truly grateful, humbled and honored, to have the choice to spread my wings and become all I have ever dreamed of being; or to maintain the simplicity of where I am in this life.
I hold sincere gratitude for this freedom and independence today, tomorrow, and always; to think, feel, do, and see all the beauty that can be witnessed at these fingertips.
It is my prayer that those who do not know this level of freedom will one day feel freedom in their heart. And those that have these freedoms will embody it and offer up a deep gratitude for the blessings they have been gifted.
And this is also my wish for you.
