Breastfeeding, All Your Questions Answered

Gavin staring at his chest one evening begins a series of questions that I found quite profound for a 6 year old.

Gavin: Mommy, why don't I have big boobies?
Me: Those aren't boobies they are your nipples.
Gavin: Why don't my nipples make milk?
Me: Because boys/men don't need to make milk. Only mommies.
Gavin: Why don't you have milk anymore mommy?
Me: Once the baby isn't a baby anymore, you don't need to make milk so it dries up and goes away.
Gavin: But what if you have another baby. How will you feed it?
Me: Very good question. God made a very special design so that when a mommy has another baby her body makes milk again to feed that baby.

This concluded his Breastfeeding 101 for the night. All questions answered. I love his quest to find out the how's and why's of all things. I hope he always feels comfortable to ask us these types of questions.
