Little Thief

This week was the school book fair. Gavin came home Monday with 4 new books.

Me: Um where did you get the money to buy 4 new books?
Him: I took $10 from your wallet this morning.
Me: $10 for 4 books. Are you sure that's all you took? You know that that's stealing if you didn't ask for the money right? Some people get caught and go to jail for stealing and it is a mortal sin for which you have to go to confession.
Him: I'm sorry will you forgive me? I just really wanted the books.
Me: I told you I would think about it and I was planning on giving you your allowance to buy the books.

Crying and angry all at once.

After finding the receipt the books were $24. Our son intelligently added up the cost beforehand and stole just enough, $25, from my purse and used the remaining change to buy a snack at school.

After speaking to his dad about just punishment we decide his lesson would best be learned by returning the books to pay his mom back. The next day the books were returned. He promised not to do it again.

He later was allowed to buy one of the books with permission and with his own money.  He was forgiven for telling the truth, though it took a bit to get it out. The truth is hard sometimes.

I am blaming it on the kids movie by Pixar called Inside Out. While a lovely movie with awesome insight into the human mind and emotions... the little girl in the movie steals money from her moms purse and runs away. Which he threatens at least one time per month usually after a punishment of some kind. Damn kids movies putting ideas into his head! Way to go Pixar!

Hillbilly

Gavin finally lost a top front tooth. Now he says, "I have to talk like a hillbilly." He now also rubs his top lip over his gums and sticks his tongue through the hole on a regular basis.
