8th Birthday Party

Gavin had an awesome birthday party this year. I braved four boys sleeping over for a Nerf Wars Party. I moved all breakables into my bedroom and they had full rein of the house to run and fight and shoot. They watched two movies, played with legos, and turned their faces blue eating ice cream cake with blue icing. I was the 3rd of the 6 of us to fall asleep at 12:30PM. They were all up by 6:45AM. Because it was Valentine's day I made them heart shaped pancakes and listened to the little social experiment brewing around the lego table. Too little sleep makes for grumpy boys who won't share. But they worked it out and finally decided to shoot at each other again. They were all great and sweet little boys and it wasn't nearly as hard as I thought. Everyone left with all their eyes and all their fingers and toes. Though as they opened gifts that were so awesome they had to be ripped into like a crazy person, Evan cut his finger on plastic. As I got him a bandaid, Gavin decided to rip into a new Nerf gun package, with a KNIFE. A steak knife to be exact. As I came into the kitchen with Evan, Gavin was holding a knife down at his side and holding his finger saying, "I don't know how it happened." Luckily it was a small cut like Evan's. Whew, crisis diverted.

After they left I almost felt lonely. My Valentine wasn't here, so we made Valentine's for my friends solo parenting nearby and for our widowed neighbors.  All in all it was a great weekend. Now I have today to recuperate before jumping head first into a new week.
