This Halloween we went with a Star Wars theme. I happened to fit in my neighbors little girls outfit from last year as Padme and Shannon and Gavin found things around the house that worked. Free and easy is my kind of Halloween. I was the coordinator for our street event and everyone comes from all over to trick or treat. Eva, Vitek, Edita, and Beata came from Prague to enjoy the American festivities. They dressed as Edward Scissorhands, Catwomen, and Harley Quinn. We went to Gavin's school's pumpkin drop as well. Gavin's didn't make the drop without breaking, it was sort of rotten by the time it made the drop. We dressed up and put together a potluck outdoors and it was so cold you almost couldn't stand it. But Eva's family enjoyed looking at how America celebrates this holiday in style.
The previous night, Eva's family slept over and we played a board game. Board games are always more challenging when English is your second language. We were playing a game called Last Word. The person who says the last word that makes sense gets the point. The subject was "What you do at night" that starts with the letter "F." All the adults make eye contact and Gavin says, "I know! But it's a bad word!" Shannon and I look at each other, he yells, "NO!" and I yell, "Fart!" Everyone laughs. And I wonder if he was even thinking the word we were or if our heads were in the gutter, or if he actually knows the word in context. Either way, we were shocked! KIDS!!
