You Are My Sunshine

My parents have always told me that when I was little, close to Gavin's age now, I sang the song, "You Are My Sunshine" all the way to Oregon. I used to think, man how annoying would that be listening to a toddler sing in the car, the same song over and over. Tonight as I gave Gavin his bath we were singing all of his favorite songs, "Roly Poly," "Itsy Bitsy Spider," "Twinkle, Twinkle," and many more. He has started to sing along with me (always a word or two ahead or behind) or I will stop singing and he will say the word that comes next. So I decided to sing my favorite song to him as I often do,"You are my sunshine, my only sun...." and he says "shine." I continue, "you make me happy when skies are...." and he finishes, "grapes" with a big old grin on his little face. I just laughed and laughed. I sang it again over and over just to hear him say it. And I thought to myself, it's not the least bit annoying to hear your little toddler sing the same song over and over, in fact, it's really great.

Thankful

This Thanksgiving, like all others, I have so much to be thankful for. All around me God has given life so much beauty. I'm thankful to have all of my senses to see, hear, smell, taste, and touch God's makings. I am thankful to have a home over my head, food on the table, for my husband to have a job that pays the bills, for my ability to stay at home and watch my little boy grow. I am thankful my husband gets to be home for Thanksgiving this year and that he loves and supports my son and I. I am thankful that he and his fellow soldiers protect and serve our country so that we can live safe and in peace at home. I am thankful that I have a car to get me home to see family and friends during the holidays and for those that are too far away, I am thankful for computers and cell phones so that we can keep in touch. I am thankful for a wonderful group of family and friends that I have met throughout my life. I am thankful for my little boy that graces me with his presence everyday and who brings me into his world, to see things at his level, new and unexplored. I am thankful to be a mother, a daughter, a wife, a friend, and to be one of God's children.
