I told Gavin today was Grandpa Stan's 64th birthday and Gavin replied, "64, 65, 66, 67..... that's a long ways from 100." He's right, it sure is. I'm only 33 and some days I feel like it's a lot closer to 100 than it really is. And I remember why I love my kid!
Also as age goes, I had a flash forward ten years as Gavin sat next to a pretty girl on the train ride at the zoo during a Kindergarten school field trip. He sat squished in between her and her older brother on the train, talking to her, smiling and laughing. She had long blond hair and a ponytail and every time she whipped her head to look at something her hair would smack him in the face and go in his mouth. I laughed as I watched him, "plllltttt" and spit out her hair and wipe off his tickled face. In ten years this innocent little boy playing with a pretty little girl making jokes and being silly the way five year olds do, will become awkward playful flirting as he discovers the world of girls. What a blessing to be able to watch him grow and change, but at the same time an aching sadness to how quickly time flies. That ten years will be here before I know it. The first five went by in a blink.

Gavin just signed his name for me and the whole alphabet all on his own! How cool is that?
