Yoga in a Child's Eyes
This is not a post with something that Gavin said, but his friend Jordan and his take on yoga.
Jordan's older brother, Christian asked what yoga was and Jordan shouts out, "Yoga is when you act like an animal or thing. When Gavin's mom taught us yoga we acted like frogs and trees. So basically you just act."
Yoga for children is most certainly a fun half hour of pretending to be all kinds of creatures! Sometimes letting go means seeing your inner kid shine through. Maybe we'd all be better off if we stopped to play, to pretend, and to look silly once in awhile.
This past weekend in yoga teacher training I got to experience a room full of adults be taught a kids yoga class. It literally brought tears to my eyes. The adults were giddy with laughter and joyous, the energy in the room shifted to a strong positive energy and any nervousness subsided. When we teach yoga to children, it may not be perfect, they may not sit still, they may not appear to be listening, but they are and they will. Kids yoga just looks a little more like playtime and we could all use a little more playtime.
