Halloween Without the Dad Blows

So some of you know we ALWAYS have dressed up for Halloween in a theme costume. Well without Shannon here who usually makes the costumes and Gavin and I who come up with ideas, it just didn't sound as much fun.

So after finding out an old book club friend was taking her kids to the beach (Gavin loves her big family of 3 boys and a girl) we decided to join them. Gavin had Friday off so we left Thursday night, hung out with an old friend and her daughter for the evening at their place. He read to her little 3 year old before she went to sleep. It was so dang sweet. Then he stayed up till 11 reading and finally came out of the bedroom and said, "Mom, stop drinking wine and come to bed."  Well this is what me and my Brit book club friend do, we wine.

So we went to bed and Friday drove to the hotel the next town over and she and her daughter came along and played too. Eventually the big family we were joining showed up. The weather wasn't the greatest Saturday and Sunday but we made do. The hotel employees dressed up, Gavin got candy from them, and we brought our own. The boys played and I relaxed and all was well.

But looking at all the FB pictures with families together all dressed up looking like they were having a blast, was semi-depressing. And with all the Royals smearing up my FB feed I decided to not look at FB anymore anyways.

Maybe next year Halloween will be more Halloween-y?

Sometimes the "off" or "odd" holidays and celebrations from your normal routine are the most memorable!
