Saint Gavin

Gavin informed me on the way to school that he was very disappointed I didn't name him after a saint. I replied back, "How do you know there isn't a Saint Gavin somewhere? And if not, maybe you will be the first Saint Gavin. Who knows?"

Well, mommy did her homework!  I LOVED the name Gavin just because it was my favorite boy name which I originally heard when listening to the lead singer of a band called Bush back in the 90's (Gavin Rossdale). I chose it because it was a definite boys name and there would be no confusion he was a girl like the name Shannon. It rhymes with nothing, so no kids could call him silly names that rhyme with Gavin. See, I seriously thought about this awhile! The name Gavin means white hawk. Not that that really matters, but you get the idea.

So, drum roll please, there was a Catholic Saint named Gavin or technically Gavino! He was Saint Gavino of Sardinia Italy and was a missionary there! There is even a Cathedral named after him called Basilica di San Gavino in Porto Torres, Sardinia Italy for those that get a chance to travel around!  I haven't been able to pull up too much information about him online, but Gavin's eyes lit up when I told him there was a Saint Gavin!

Footnote: Turns out kids will still find ways to make fun.  For a brief moment, kids called Gavin, Gay-vin.
