I just finished reading a book called Raising Your Spirited Child by Mary Kurcinka. It was a fascinating read that helped me to ensure myself that my son DOES NOT have ADHD or any other crazy diagnosis, because I've certainly wondered some days. I also learned that I am also a Spirited Child and an extrovert from reading this book. Which explains a lot of things! It was an eye opener so here is what I learned about my dear sweet energetic child. And each little thing makes him who he is!
You are extroverted, you love the energy you get from other people and make fast friends, but you do enjoy the quiet and often step away for a few minutes in new situations to gather your bearings with a little alone time.
You are energetic and smart, which make things hard on your mom somedays.
You are spirited and independent.
You are hard on yourself, a perfectionist.
You are sensitive and have a soft heart especially for animals.
You use humor to your advantage. You can be silly just as much as you can be serious and analytical.
Just like your mom you have days when you need someone to help you see the positive. Don't let one problem rob you of the joy of good moments.
You are dramatic. You take center stage where ever you go, everyone knows who you are thanks to your sparkling personality. Your smile lights up a room.
You function amazingly on very little sleep.
When you are nervous, you talk and move around a lot.
When you are swamped with overwhelming emotions you have a tantrum that can rage for hours while you let loose all those wild emotions.
You are notorious for blaming others for your problems.
You are persistent and intense and hate to take a break making relaxing and falling asleep difficult to accomplish.
You like to know what's ahead and have a tough time adjusting when plans change last minute, but you are a true military kid in that you love to try new things, set out for new adventures, and make new friends everywhere you go. I find it's best to give you fair warning of what's to come.
I find the best ways of helping you are to focus on the good things you do. Teach you responsibility. Promise that you can start fresh with every new day. And use humor to diffuse meltdowns and upsets. You love a good laugh and fortunately I can still make you laugh time to time!
Maybe someday you'll discover your very own child with a spirited personality? Maybe someday you'll read this and unearth a few of your own secrets to your personality.
