I don't see you much anymore. You spend your days in the cave of your room with your LED lights and headphones on. But once in awhile I force you out to do some things with us.
Today I forced you out to go see a play, the production of Clue, at the theater in Huntsville. Your dad, you and I went. We are sitting in our seats waiting for it to start and I'm flipping through the photos on my phone as you look over my shoulder. Up pops a picture I took of the meal I made last night, butternut squash soup with a garnish of roasted kale leaves, Brazil nuts, and tahini. It was beautiful.
Gavin: What is that a picture of?
Me: My masterpiece!
Gavin: (Lets out a huge burp and blows it in my face) There's your masterpiece.
Me: (laughing my ass off)
Shannon: What are you laughing at?
Me: (I relay the story still laughing)
Shannon: He is your son.
As much of an asshole as you are at this age, when you make me laugh, despite how rude you are, you are once again redeemed.
