Too Close... Encounters

Today was an eventful day at the park. Gavin had plenty to entertain him. We watched the goslings wander around. There was an excavator digging a trench. A group of people had come to see a firetruck who was showing off his big rig and a state trooper who was doing the same. After all this action, Gavin wanted to ride his bike. So he did. He was about 10-15 ft in front of me and my mommy radar was up. In the shade of a tree right next to his feet I see a slithery snake sliding right along side of his little legs. I yelled, "Gavin STOP." And about that time he saw what I saw. I'm not sure if he stepped on it or looked down to see what I was yelling about. He dropped his bike and ran back to me. I was too far away to see what kind it was as we have plenty of poisonous ones out here. But I checked him for bites and calmed him down. I braved up and went to pick up the bike after seeing the snake slither off towards the lake. As I walked back to Gavin waiting for me in the sunshine I watched him shake his arms as if he had the willies. I had them too! Yikes!

Day at the Zoo

The OKC zoo was celebrating Mother's Day this weekend, letting all mom's in for free. Gavin, Shannon, and I went last weekend and Gavin had so much fun he's been asking to go back all week. This time we hit a few spots we didn't have time to hit last time. The giraffe's were up close and personal and showing off their long tongues. Gavin's newest approach to animals other than, "I want to touch it" is now, "What's your name?" Each animal we saw today he would say hello and ask their name. I'm not sure where he picked this up, but it's pretty sweet!
