We recently read the story of the Velveteen Rabbit to Gavin. If you are unaware of the story a boy takes to loving a stuffed rabbit. In the rabbit's mind he is real because he is loved. After time the boy forgets about rabbit and moves on. A fairy makes the rabbit a real rabbit.
Yesterday a friend of mine's family member grieved the death of their child who died in birth from a defect. The three of us prayed for this child and Gavin said he wanted to pray that Jesus would make this child real again. (Tear watering sweet I might add).
Real is defined as being an actual thing, having objective existence, not imaginary. This child was and is certainly real in the eyes of our Beholder. God has given us, as parents, the privelage to raise his children. It is His gift to us to hold and love our children while they are on this earth with us, before we are taken to serve the Lord in Heaven. Hug your babies and your families for this life here on Earth is short.
