We spent several beautiful hours at the pool
yesterday which despite its size felt like bath water already and it's
only June. Gavin is starting to resemble an Indian. Feathered or dot on the forehead kind, either way he's dark. Gavin just completed three weeks of private swim lessons with
an 18 yr old kid. He is swimming very well, several feet and fairly fast. He can stop mid-stride, come up for breath while treading, and go back under to swim. He can dive
4.5 ft for toys at the bottom of the pool. He does the dead man float
very well. And can hold his breath for a LONG time! He does need to work on coordinating his arms, legs, and breath but still pretty good for four year old. He might be part dolphin!
He peer
pressured a little girl at the pool yesterday to swim. She wouldn't put
her head in and she asked, "how old is he?" I replied, "he's four." She asked "How can he swim if he's only four?" I told her when we gave him goggles
and he could see under he just started to learn and now he's swimming.
Well after an hour she had her mom and dad in the pool with her goggles
on and she was "swimming"! Peer pressure at it's best! He was also
adopted by 2 older boys probably about 8 yrs old and they were playing
war in the pool with water guns. They took care of him, gave him high
fives, and told him he was cool! He is a very likable guy.
I love it
when he has simple conversations with kids and I get to hear them. He
asks them their name, if he can play with them. He tells them his name
and his age. And he just dives right in. Most of the time they except him with open arms and play with him because he just looks like a fun guy and he can speak as good as they do. There are a few who aren't interested and either tell him so or ignore him and some are just mean. But he accepts it and goes on his way and finds someone else whose interested. I hope this means that he will
adjust well to our frequent military moves.
