Love a Kid's Perspective

Enjoying our Labor Day weekend with activities like the lake with friends, fireworks, the pool, golf, bike rides and food I am taking it all in. It's one of my few weekends off from attending yoga teacher training this fall. Upon saying out loud how much I was enjoying not being in school this weekend Gavin makes a great point, "But mommy, you don't have to go to school Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday!"  Very true my little smart one.

I do enjoy going to school, using a part of my brain that hasn't been used in quite some time. I am fulfilled doing something I love and doing something for myself that will eventually help to better the lives of others. So why do I feel the need to complain about this blessing? I spend way too much of my life complaining and not just living in the moment.

Kids are so great at spending their lives in the moment.  At what point do we lose our ability to just do what we are doing fully without worry, fear, or a whirlwind of thoughts of past and future events? Yoga is very much about learning to take hold of each moment and savor it just as we used to as kids. Sign me up!  I'd very much like to have this ability again.  Maybe yoga isn't my only teacher, maybe Gavin is my true yogi.  Either way, I'm enjoying it all, this moment of realization.  Life itself is a pretty great teacher if we just take the time to study.

 Awesome Answer

Today Gavin and I read a book called Time Train about a school group that travels through time to study dinosaurs. I asked Gavin if he could travel to any time where would he travel to and he replies, "To the 1940's." I asked him why he would travel to the 1940's and he said, "So I could fly the fighter planes in the war."

I was impressed by his quick response to such an imaginative question, but I should have known it would have included fighter planes!
