Listening to Adele's Rumor Has It, I see in the rear view mirror Gavin jamming out and he starts singing, "Boomer Has It, Boomer Has it, Boooooomer." I told him the actual words to the song and he asks, "What's a rumor?" After explaining what a rumor was, he says, "I like Boomer better." I love this kid.
By the way, I've been guilty of a few wrong lyrics in my day and I was curious what they call this 'issue.' Here is what I found:
Mondegreens are a sort of aural malapropism. Instead of saying the wrong word, you hear the wrong word. The word mondegreen is generally used for misheard song lyrics, although technically it can apply to any speech. http://mentalfloss.com/article/22684/what-mondegreen
Didn't know I'd teach you something today did ya?
Big Speller
Gavin practices his spelling in the tub with a bath tub marker. He tells
me he is going to spell "light saber." So he writes, "li savr." I said,
"Very good, but the word is actually light saber, not li-saver. After
this his dad had so explain what a "saber" is.
Today he came home from school with the word "womin" written on the
bottom of his letter E paper. I asked him if he spelled the word woman
on his paper, he said "yes." Unfortunately he couldn't tell me why he
felt compelled to write 'woman' on his paper.
