April Fool's

Parenting lately has been rough. Really rough. Sometimes I wonder if I have the stamina to go on fighting. And there are the occasional moments that shine through and make me smile.

Gavin asked what April Fool's Day was. I explained and told him an example. He says, "But that's lying."  Yep a fool is a lie, that doesn't hurt people, well not usually.  He decided he needed to play a fool on someone.

Turns out he's been fooling his old parents lately, multiple times a day, which explains my exhaustion. So I told him to tell his teacher that he got a real Easter bunny for Easter and then when she gets all excited for him, tell her April Fool's. So we get to school and he can't wait to try out this "ok to tell a lie" fool. It worked like a charm, she fell for it. He looked at me with a sparkle in his eye. Then he tried it again on the next unsuspecting "fool," my friend Miranda. It worked again!

Later, when he got in the car, he looks at me with a sheepish expression and says, "I got a yellow paper. I had bad behavior today."  I gave him the eye and asked why and he replies with a grin, "April Fool's!" There is no doubt the kid has lying/fooling down to a perfection. He's given us many examples of that lately! Maybe it's the double ear infection and the antibiotics causing him to behave like a holy terror. Either way I hope it doesn't last long.
